Brought to you by the warm, passionate, and colorful city of Valencia, Spain, comes Pianist Pablo García-Berlanga.
Pablo first came in contact with music through the choir schools of his city, like the Pequeños Cantores de Valencia. A born musician, in a family of music lovers, Pablo began his studies at the Conservatorio de Música Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia where he graduated in piano studies with distinction. He went on to study piano with Aleksandar Madzar at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels, where he received a Master in Muziek. Pablo then went further on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he specialized in piano accompaniment under the tutelage of Malcolm Martineau. He received his Master of Arts in performance with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music and won the Christian Charpentier Piano Prize.
Music has been a part of my life since I was a little child. My mother always tells me the story of me sitting on the sofa at home watching the whole of Mozart’s Requiem when I was only 4 years old. I feel music so naturally in me, as if I was born with it. Years later, when I was 7 years old, and I wrote my first “essay” in primary school, I talked about music and the last sentence was “I will be a pianist,” without any doubt!
A well-rounded pianist, Pablo devoted time to lessons in harpsichord and choral conducting, ultimately obtaining the prestigious Licenciate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) Teaching Diploma with distinction. He has received piano instruction from Adolfo Bueso, Victoria Alemany, Guillermo González, Joaquín Soriano, Ratko Delorko, Karl-Heinz Kaemmerling, Mûza Rubackyte, and followed master classes of Lieder with Wolfram Rieger and French melodie with François Le Roux. He has accompanied singing master classes with Barbara Bonney, Ann Murray, Sir Thomas Allen, Denis O’Neill, Lawrence Zazzo, Florian Boesch, and Wolfgang Holzmair, and worked as a repetiteur and vocal coach at the Italian Opera Summer Course for Royal Academy of Music singers in Cinqueterre, Italy. Most recently, he completed an intensive post-graduate year as vocal coach and repetiteur at the Flanders Operastudio in Ghent.
Pablo has played in several venues abroad, including countries like Belgium, Italy, and the UK, and he’s not stopping there! As a soloist, his debuts include cities like Madrid, Valencia, León, Ghent with a Grieg Marathon, and the cathedrals on the Santiago pilgrimage route for the Xacobeo 2010. He has played a number of recitals as an accompanist in Belgium (Oostende, Antwerp, Blankenberge, Ghent, and the Vlaamse Opera) and in London (Royal Academy of Music, Spanish Embassy, Austrian Cultural Forum, St. Bride’s church, and St. Dunstan-in-the-West church). He’s been involved in music festivals like The Old Chapels in Somerset and the Sedbergh Music Festival, and performed French song concerts in Arlon, Belgium, and at the Conservatoire Royale de Bruxelles in the presence of Crown Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
Currently, Pablo fuels his passion for song and opera by working as a vocal coach and repetiteur. Past projects include Die Zauberflöte, Actéon, Elle est moi und töte mich (world premiere, opera by Joris Blanckaert) at the Flanders Operastudio, Così fan tutte with Bang-Up Opera, and Don Giovanni with the Sommer Oper Bamberg 2013 (Germany). Future engagements include La Bohème with Bang-up! Opera (Belgium), chamber music and Lied recitals in Belgium, Portugal, and Spain, and a tour as the piano soloist with the National Orchestra of El Salvador in El Salvador.
I love opera, Lied and vocal music. Singing was always present in my life. I always think I learned to sing before I could walk or talk. I sang in choirs my entire life, since I was 3 years old. Then, one day, I discovered the Cantatas by Bach, and then opera, composers, concertos, symphonies… Nowadays, I’m still discovering every day, which is the wonderful thing of my job.
I’m a fortunate guy!

La Bohème, Così fan tutte, Grand Opera Night
Too difficult to choose only one from the whole repertoire, but one of my favorite pieces is Verdi’s Requiem.
Antonio Pappano, Lorin Maazel, Plácido Domingo, Waltraud Meier, Eugeny Kissin, Martha Argerich…
La Traviata was the first opera I discovered and it will always have a very big place in my heart. I also like Le nozze di Figaro a lot! And, Die Walküre!
A beautiful landscape, the countryside, the sea, my family, my friends, my colleagues, and in general, all the beautiful things I have in my life.
